Study to improve the operation of the border Train Station of Eidomeni (EIAS 147):
This study constitutes the EIAS of the project. The object of the technical study is the necessary interventions (architectural, static, transport, hydraulics) that have to be made in improving the functionality of the station aiming at a functional as well as an aesthetic and environmental upgrade in order to meet the requirements of the corresponding border stations of the Country and the European Union. In particular, new operating standards and modern rooms are developed in the existing two-storey station building, a new building on the north side of the existing one is being constructed and the docks of the station are being redeployed with shelters of approximately 210 m length each.
Moreover, metal aerial walkways interconnecting the platforms are also manufactured and the surrounding area on the west side of the Station, which is within the limits of the plot, is formated, and to that extent that it is converted to parking, access and planting according to the architectural design. The necessary electromechanical plants for the perfect, modern and safe operation of the station are implemented and developed. Roads are reconstructed to access the station of total length 2 km and the necessary interventions for water supply, storm water drainage, sewerage and electricity supply are made. The project area lies within the GR 1220010 Site of Community Importance of the Natura 2000 network. In the study, the environmental impacts caused by the construction and operation of the project were examined and evaluated and appropriate measures in order to tackle these effects were suggested, while special emphasis was given on the assessment and evaluation of the project’s impacts on flora, fauna and ecosystems of the region given its high ecological value.
